Been taking that route between Pinellas and Tallahassee for 40 years. Very little has changed and there’s NEVER any traffic north of Spring Hill. Only Crystal River has grown appreciably over that span. Unfortunately, Dunedin to Spring Hill sucks.

Thank goodness for You Tube and to see mountain touring like this one. What a thrill! I lived in Colorado Springs from 1987 to 1991. One day someone happened to mention Gold Camp Road to the Victor/Cripple Creek area. My ears perked up. I had been to CC a couple times via Woodland Park. I started inquiring about GCR. Some folks warned me against going that route. So, I guess I finally chickened out. This 1:28:51 video allowed me do it anyway from my desk after my return to Canada. Thank you!

I have been wanting to try this road for a while. we drive from fort Collins to Glenwood springs a lot and go right by this road. I've been wondering if there was some road that follows the Colorado River. Love your music choice also.

50:22 too bad they had to close this bridge on US 50 there at Blue Mesa Reservoir and this hour drive currently takes about 6 hours. I LOVE this drive and really enjoyed the video - hope they get this sorted out soon! I was over the same route about 2 months before this in mid/late September 2022 - what a glorious drive!

In actuallity can they build one bridge that doesn’t need to be repalced after 45-50 years? Like how hard is it?

Thanks for posting this. It may just be the only video on UA-cam of this road and pass and is a back way to get from I-40 down to I-10 to avoid Los Angeles. I moved from San Diego to Albuquerque last fall and am having to move my stuff over 4 trips pulling a large trailer. I had mapped out this road as the fastest "back door" to avoid having to go up through east L.A. which jogs northwest through San Bernardino and its steep mountain pass on I-15 to Barstow. While not a 4 lane highway, this old Route 66 road just seems to be a lot less steep of a pass to traverse and actually saves me lot of miles overall. If anyone else reads this, check the San Bernardino County public works web site (operations and road closures page) because I also had to wait an extra month due to one of the bridges being flooded out above Amboy. It had to be replaced (spring 2024).

U used to live up Kebler pass a mile oughta town , couldn't afford housing but still miss it badly !
